“Daily or weekly?” is really a question about how quickly your office gets dirty and what happens between visits. A small team in a quiet office can be well served by one thorough clean a week. A busy floor with a well-used kitchen can look tired by lunchtime the day after the cleaner leaves. Most offices sit somewhere in between, which is why the best answer is often neither.
What decides the frequency
People in the office each day — not desks
Count the people actually in on a typical day. A 30-desk office with a hybrid team of 12 creates less mess than its floor plan suggests, while a small office with everyone in every day creates more.
How the kitchen is used
If staff eat lunch in, wash their own cups and use the microwave, the kitchen is usually the first thing to slip. Bins, sink and benches need attention more often than the rest of the office.
Bathrooms and the people per bathroom
One bathroom shared by many people needs more frequent cleaning and restocking than several lightly used ones. If your bathrooms are shared building facilities, check what building management already cleans.
Visitors and clients
A reception area or meeting room that clients see every day justifies more frequent attention than a back office.
Floors and entries
Hard floors at the entry show every wet day, and a walkway carpet collects grit quickly. Offices with a lot of foot traffic usually need floors done more often than desks.
When people are in
Hybrid teams often cluster on the same days. A clean the evening after the busiest day does more than one on a quiet day.
Daily, a few times a week or weekly
| Daily | Two or three times a week | Weekly | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Usually suits | Busy offices, all-day kitchens, client-facing spaces | Mid-sized or hybrid teams | Small teams with low traffic |
| Each visit | Shorter, as less builds up | Medium | Longer, more detailed |
| Between visits | Little for staff to do | Kitchen tidy-ups by staff | Staff handle dishes, bins and spills |
| Main risk | Paying for visits that find little to do | Busy days falling just before a visit | Overflowing bins and a tired kitchen mid-week |
More visits mean a higher total cost, even though each visit is shorter. Our guide to office cleaning costs explains what else shapes the price.
The split schedule
A split schedule often works well: the high-use areas more often, everything else less often. For example:
- Every visit, two to five times a week: kitchen benches and sink, bathrooms and restocking, bins, and a quick vacuum of walkways.
- Once a week: dusting desks and ledges, a full vacuum and mop, meeting rooms and glass marks.
- Monthly or as needed: the detailed tasks — vents within safe reach, inside cupboards, internal glass and partitions.
Our office cleaning checklist sets out the tasks by frequency, ready to adapt.
What staff need to do between visits
A weekly or twice-weekly schedule works only if everyone knows what happens in between. Agree a few simple things:
- dishes washed or put in the dishwasher each day
- food cleared from the fridge before the cleaning day
- who empties a kitchen bin if it fills early
- one person or channel for reporting problems to the cleaner
Signs your schedule is wrong
Too little cleaning:
- bins full or smelling before the next visit
- toilet paper, soap or paper towels running out between visits
- complaints that cluster on particular days
- staff quietly doing the cleaner’s job
Too much:
- the cleaner regularly finds little to do in some areas
- the same rooms are cleaned whether or not anyone used them
Test it, then adjust
Choose a starting schedule, then review it after the first month with the person who cleans. Changing which days the cleaner comes, or moving a task between the daily and weekly list, often fixes a problem without adding visits. Ask for a proposal that lets you change the frequency with reasonable notice, so the schedule can follow your office rather than the other way round.
How we set a schedule
Our office cleaning is priced from your floor area, the number of kitchens and bathrooms, how often you want us and when we can get in, before or after working hours. We can work from a scope you already have or put one together with you after a short walk-through. Most proposals are a fixed price per visit, with any agreed extras listed separately, and the terms — including notice — are agreed in the proposal. Send your details through the commercial quote request to start.
