The first visit in a new cleaning arrangement sets the pattern for the ones after it. A little preparation means the time goes on cleaning rather than tidying, the things that matter to you get done, and you find out quickly whether the arrangement suits your home.

Here is what to do when you book, the day before and on the day.

When you book

  • Choose the kind of clean. A regular clean keeps on top of everyday dirt. If the home has not been professionally cleaned for a while, a deep clean first gives regular visits a clean base to maintain; regular house cleaning vs deep cleaning explains the difference. If you plan ongoing visits, weekly vs fortnightly house cleaning helps you pick a schedule.
  • Be honest about the condition. The calculator has a condition setting, and the online price is the price for the details you enter. If the home turns out to be very different, for example much larger or in much worse condition, we talk to you before doing any extra work.
  • Add the extras you want. Inside the oven, inside the fridge, interior windows, blinds, a balcony sweep and mop, a garage sweep and a laundry detail are extras, not part of every visit.
  • Put your priorities in the notes. Name the two or three things that matter most, such as the shower screen, grease in the kitchen or pet hair on the floors.
  • Mention pets, stairs, rooms you would rather we left alone, and anything else about the home worth knowing.
  • Sort out access. The booking form asks whether you will be home, or whether the keys come from an agent, a lock box or key safe, or something else. Access details are only seen by the team doing your clean and are never emailed. Include building entry or intercom instructions if there are any.
  • Think about parking. Free parking on site or in the street is best. Metered or paid parking adds $11 plus GST to the price.

Sending the form is a request. Your booking is confirmed when we contact you by phone, SMS or email.

The day before

You do not need to clean before the cleaner comes, but a quick tidy makes a real difference.

  • Clear benches, tables and floors of dishes, mail, toys, clothes and shoes, so the time goes on cleaning surfaces rather than moving things.
  • Wash up or stack the dishwasher, so the sink and benches can be cleaned properly.
  • Pick up laundry. Washing and ironing clothes are not part of a home clean.
  • Put away valuables, such as cash, jewellery, important papers and medicines, as you would for any visitor.
  • Move fragile or sentimental items off the surfaces you want dusted, or tell us which ones to leave alone.
  • Empty or tidy the fridge if you have booked the inside of the fridge, so the shelves can be reached.
  • Leave out your own products if there is a surface you want cleaned with them, such as a stone benchtop or a timber floor. We bring our own products and equipment, so this is only needed where you have a preference.
  • Leave fresh sheets on the bed if you have asked for beds to be made and want clean linen on, and mention it in the notes when you book so we can confirm.

On the day

  • Settle the pets. Put them in another room, the yard or with a friend, especially if they are nervous or likely to slip out an open door.
  • If you are home, do a short walk-through. Point out the priorities, any rooms to skip, anything not to touch and where the bins are.
  • If you are not home, make sure the access you arranged is ready, and leave a note on the kitchen bench with any last instructions.
  • Give the team room to work. If you work from home, a room they can do first, or last, keeps everyone out of each other’s way.

What a home clean covers

Each visit covers the kitchen benches, sink, cooktop and appliance fronts; bathrooms and toilets; dusting of reachable surfaces; and vacuuming and mopping the floors. Beds are made on request, and rubbish is emptied into your bins.

It does not include washing and ironing clothes, outside windows above ground level, or moving heavy furniture. A first clean often has more to catch up on than later visits, which is why a deep clean or a few targeted extras can be worth adding the first time.

After the first clean

  • Walk around soon after and note anything missed or anything you would like done differently. Tell us, so the next visit can be adjusted.
  • Give a regular schedule a few visits before judging it, especially if the first one was catching up.
  • Expect familiar faces. We try to keep the same team for regular customers, and if someone is on leave we tell you who is coming.
  • Changing plans: to skip a visit, let us know as early as you can, ideally at least a day before. To change or cancel a booking, call or message us as early as possible; any cancellation terms are confirmed with your booking.
