Most people looking for a regular cleaner end up choosing between weekly and fortnightly visits. Neither is right for everyone. The choice comes down to how quickly your home slips back to a state you do not like, what you are willing to do between visits, and what you want to spend each month.
The short answer
| Weekly | Fortnightly | |
|---|---|---|
| Often suits | Families, pets, shared houses, people who cook most days or work from home | Singles and couples, smaller homes, people who tidy as they go |
| Between visits | Little more than everyday tidying | A short mid-point wipe of the kitchen and bathroom |
| Price per visit | The lowest | Lower than a one-off clean |
| Visits per month | About four | About two |
| How it feels | Consistently clean | Clean, then gradually less so in the second week |
Five questions that decide it
How quickly do the kitchen and bathroom get grubby?
These two rooms decide most schedules. Grease on a cooktop and soap scum on a shower screen are easy to remove after a week and noticeably harder after two. If yours need more than a quick wipe by day seven, weekly visits keep them in the easy range.
Who and what lives in the home?
Children, pets that shed, several adults at home during the day and shared households all mean floors, benches and bathrooms get dirty faster. Fewer people and no pets usually make a fortnight between visits comfortable.
What will you do between visits?
Fortnightly works best when someone does a little upkeep in the middle — see the list below. If nobody will, the second week tends to undo the first, and each visit spends more of its time catching up.
What do you want to spend each month?
Weekly visits cost less each than fortnightly ones, but there are about twice as many, so the monthly total is higher. Compare the cost per month, not just per visit.
Do you want help, or to hand the job over?
If the goal is to stop thinking about cleaning altogether, weekly visits do that. If you are happy to keep on top of light jobs yourself and want help with the harder work, fortnightly is often enough.
What fortnightly needs from you in between
A short routine a few times during the off week keeps a fortnightly schedule working:
- Wipe the kitchen benches and cooktop after cooking
- Rinse the sink and clear food scraps
- Squeegee or wipe the shower screen after showers
- Wipe the bathroom basin and around the taps
- Vacuum the busiest areas if you have pets or young children
- Empty the bins before they overflow
- Keep benches and floors clear, so the cleaner’s time goes on cleaning rather than tidying
When neither fits
- Monthly suits smaller, quieter homes, or households who clean regularly themselves and want a thorough top-up.
- One-off cleans suit a busy patch, guests arriving, or a home that only needs help now and then.
- A deep clean first. If the home has not been professionally cleaned for a while, the first few regular visits will spend their time catching up. A deep clean brings it to a level that weekly or fortnightly visits can then maintain — regular house cleaning vs deep cleaning explains the difference.
A simple way to decide
- Pick the schedule your kitchen and bathroom need, using the questions above.
- Give it a couple of months. One or two visits is not enough to judge, especially if the first one was catching up.
- Watch the second week. On fortnightly, if the second week regularly bothers you, move to weekly. On weekly, if there is little left to do at each visit, fortnightly may be enough.
- Add extras when they are due. Inside the oven, the fridge, interior windows and blinds do not need doing every visit.
- Keep carpets in mind. Vacuuming at each visit handles surface dirt; carpet steam cleaning vs vacuuming explains when a deeper clean is worth it.
How our regular cleans work
Our regular home cleaning is available weekly, fortnightly or monthly, or as a one-off. Each visit covers the kitchen benches, sink, cooktop and appliance fronts, bathrooms and toilets, dusting of reachable surfaces, and vacuuming and mopping the floors; beds are made on request and rubbish is emptied into your bins. Washing and ironing are not included.
A one-off clean of a one-bedroom apartment starts at $319 + GST, and of a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house at $579 + GST. Regular visits cost less each time than a one-off clean — the more often you book, the bigger the saving — and the saving applies to each visit while the schedule continues. The calculator shows the per-visit price for each frequency.
We try to keep the same team for regular customers, and if you need to skip a visit, let us know as early as you can, ideally at least a day before. When you have chosen a schedule, send a booking request with your preferred day and we confirm it with you.
